Practice creating a STAR Story for the following interview questions:
1. Give an example of what teamwork means to you.
* Describe the situation…
* What was the task at hand…
* What action did you take….
* Finally, what were the results of your action…
One example I can think of, is when I’m at work and someone calls in late or there is a no show. My first reaction is that there will be missing tasks that will be unfinished and need to be completed as soon as possible. First thing I’ll do, is go to my supervisor and ask if there is anything that I can do to help out to make this transition more smoothly. In the end, everything works out and I was able to help out the team and making sure nothing else goes wrong for the rest of the day.
2. Give me an example of a major challenge that you faced, and how you went about addressing the problem, and how it turned out.
* Describe the situation…
* What was the task at hand…
* What action did you take….
* Finally, what were the results of your action…
An example I can think of, is when I had a problem with a co-worker who was getting just a little bit too close to me, uncomfortably, and had to try to resolve the problem before it gets out of hand. First I had to talk to the co-worker about the situation, even though they might not even know about it, and see if were able to solve the situation without anyone else getting involved. After I talked to this person about the situation, we were able to come to an agreement to keep the workplace, professionally and to work very well. Able to solve the situation without getting any supervisor or any management position involved into this conflict or situation.
3. Describe a past goal and how you achieved it.
* Describe the situation…
* What was the task at hand…
* What action did you take….
* Finally, what were the results of your action…
I was living in Orem, Utah when I applied to go to the Internship of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. When I finally received the letter stating I was accepted, I have one major problem to consider, moving from Utah to Florida. With lots of organization with finance, planning with scheduling, and researching, I was able to accomplished moving from Utah to Florida with only one challenging task which was unexpected. I was stuck in St. Louis, Missouri for a day and still able to make it to Orlando Florida, on time.
